Nestled along the Ewa Plain, the par-72, 6,870-yard golf course will provide a challenging test to golfers of all skill levels. The golf course was designed to expose natural coral rock formations in cliff-like structures, part of the natural beauty of the terrain.
2. Pearl Country Club, Oahu
One of the finest golf courses on Oahu, Pearl Country Club has been in operation since 1967. Graced with stately trees of many varieties, this course challenges all golfers with its varied terrain. Located on the gentle slopes of the Koolau mountain range, the club overlooks Pearl Harbor, the Arizona Memorial, the USS Missouri, and the Waianae Mountain Range to the west. Open year-round to the public, Pearl Country Club is a short 20-minute drive from Waikiki. Their rates are comparable to other public golf courses on the island but their superior course conditions are equivalent to any private course.
Pearl Country Club is home to the Hawaii Pearl Open, an $80,000 tournament, with additional prizes for the winner of a gold Hawaii Pearl Open pendant valued at $2,000, and two roundtrip airline tickets to Japan donanted by Japan Airlines. Known in Hawaii as the most lucrative of local tournaments, Pearl Country Club hosts a field of 180 golf professionals and championship level amateurs from Hawaii, Japan, the continental United States, Australia, and Canada.
3. Poipu Bay Golf Course, Kauai
Poipu Bay is like no other golf course in the world. Here, nature and renowned designer Robert Trent Jones Jr. have conspired to create a stunning venue in Kauai for the star-studded PGA Grand Slam of Golf. A unique and unforgettable golf experience awaits you in Kauai, one that will bring every aspect of your game into fresh and thrilling focus.
The outstanding Poipu Bay golf course offers some exceptional amenities such as an in-cart satellite navigation system that indicates your exact distance to the hole and pin placement -- and a few slightly lower-tech amenities like an on-course beverage cart and refreshing cold towels. If you're looking to tune up your game while on your Kauai vacation, Poipu Bay's helpful golf pros offer daily clinics and video instruction in addition to hosting group tournaments and a variety of youth programs.

Experience a day of golf at one of Maui's best golf courses. The 6,537-yard, par-72 Robin Nelson and Rodney Wright designed golf course was constructed in 1991. Carved out of the foothills of the scenic West Maui Mountains, the design of Sandalwood Golf Course takes advantage of the local terrain and Hawaiian trade winds to create a unique golf experience. A popular choice for both visiting and local golfers, Sandalwood plays host to numerous Maui and statewide tournaments throughout the year. The par 3s on the front side play up and downhill to small greens. On the backside a small dry creek bed and a lake come into play, and accuracy is a must. The par 4s are designed to make the golfer work to get to the greens in regulation. There are many elevation changes combined with doglegs in both directions making long drives an essential part of the game. The par 5s were designed to give the long ball hitter a chance for a birdie or possibly an eagle.
5. Wailea Golf Club, Maui
Home of the Wendy's Champions Skins Game, the Wailea Gold Course is the most challenging of Wailea's trio (Gold, Emerald, and Blue). Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., it has been ranked among the country's best new courses by Golf Magazine and Golf Digest, and one of the world's best designed by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler. Jones flavored the Gold with elements of classic golf course design, then finished it with a rugged, natural look. Throughout the course are stark lava rock outcroppings, indigenous Hawaiian grasses, an abundance of kiawe (a relative of mesquite), and remnants of papohaku, prehistoric lava rock walls built by early Hawaiians and preserved for their historic value. The Gold's 200-foot elevation change from top to bottom enhances the numerous ocean and mountain vistas available from virtually every hole. The course has been labeled a "thinking player's" course because it demands strategy and careful club selection to be played well.
6. Kaanapali Tournament Course, Maui
The Kaanapali Golf Courses lie at the heart of the Kaanapali Beach Resort. The Tournament North Course is one of only two golf courses in Hawaii designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. The North Course, par 71 and 6,994 yards, is typical Trent Jones, with large, contoured greens that emphasize putting skill.
At 6,555 yards, the par 71 Resort South Course is a bit shorter, with smaller, subtle greens. The Kaanapali Golf College has pros available for lessons, and there are two putting greens and a driving range. Players can also enjoy use of the comprehensive clubhouse facilities and the clubhouse restaurant, Reilley's Steak & Seafood.
7. Ko'olau Golf Course, Oahu
Koolau Golf course is among the top US golf courses. The course was built in 1991 as a private country club for high rollers, and is located just over the Pali Highway from Honolulu.
You can't beat this course for beautiful Hawaii golf. It has breathtaking mountain views, spectacular fairways surrounded by rainforest, and dramatic sights of the Pacific Ocean. Locals talk constantly about how tough this course is. The rule of thumb is to bring the same number of balls as your handicap. The 18th hole has two carries over a giant ravine -- both the drive and the approach shot.
8. Kona Country Club, Big Island
Established in 1966, the 36-hole layout features the Ocean Golf Course and Alii (Royal) Golf Course, both steeped in the rich Hawaiian Heritage of Hawaii's Big Island.
The island of Hawaii is the birthplace of a king (Kamehameha III) and a playground for the Alii (the Royal Holua Slide).
9. Mauna Kea Golf Course, Big Island
The incomparable Mauna Kea Golf Course offers golfers the perfect challenge to match their level of play. Created by Robert Trent Jones Sr., the 18-hole championship course presents dramatic changes in elevation, large undulating greens, and 120 well-placed bunkers.
There are incredible panoramic sweeps of sea and land, featuring snow-capped Mauna Kea, rugged lava beds, and the sparkling blue Pacific. One of the most spectacular features is the famous third hole -- where surging inlet water races to meet the rocky shoreline, affording one of the most breathtaking views in golf today.
10. Waikele Golf Club, Oahu
Designed by internationally renowned golf course architect Ted Robinson, Waikele is just 30 minutes west of Waikiki in a region of exceptional beauty. The course overlooks Pearl Harbor and the blue Pacific. Turn and your gaze sweeps from Diamond Head to the sculpted slopes of the Koolau, and Waianae mountains.
Waikele Golf Club provides challenges and enjoyment to players of all skill levels from beginner to pro through the use of water features and special topography. Surrounding the course are spectacular views of Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor, and the Koolau and Waianae mountains.
